Mr. Davis was a man who few loved, unless you really got to know him. While I wasn’t that fortunate, I was lucky enough to be given the honor to write a piece about him for TheFootballGirl.com. He was a stubborn, hardnosed man who really enjoyed his satin track suites and chained spectacles. All this aside, he’s the man that gave us the NFL we have now.
He hired the first black and latino coaches as well as the first woman CEO in the NFL. When his wife had a heart attack, he moved into the hospital for a month to be by her side. Most of all though, he was a Raider. He was the owner and coach for over four decades and the same no-nonsense, “Just Win Baby” attitude that he carried around, he instilled in his team. The world lost a great leader and visionary this weekend. HERE’S MY PIECE on the late, very great Al Davis.
